Community Engagement & Outreach
Mission
The Choctaw community is the cornerstone of the Historic Preservation Department. With this in mind, the Community Outreach and Research Program engages the Department in a cycle of community interaction. Outreach provides opportunities for the community to share information with the Department. The Department may then conduct research to provide additional historical and cultural context. This information is shared with the broader community, when appropriate. Through these interactions, the community actively directs the efforts of the Department as a whole, ensuring decisions are informed by community needs and aspirations.
The Community Engagement and Outreach Program is made up of several different components including Community presentations, classes, oral history recordation, answering information and research requests, Iti Fabvssa, the Chahta Imponna Database, and Chahta Tosholi.
